God is the model for us of selfless love. There was no need for God to create our planet or the creatures that inhabit it; it was an act of selfless love. There was also no need for God to send his only Son to save us. That too was an act of selfless love.
As we draw closer to God and the mystery of the Trinity, we learn about God's love. God has lavished us with love in the persons of the Son and the Spirit, who in turn nurture in us the desire to do the same. When we open ourselves to be filled with an awareness of the divine life within us, we participate in the endless spiral of love that leads to eternal life. Whenever we share selfless love in the family, we are sharing in the life of the Trinity.
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings as a family:
- Plan a family picnic or other outing to celebrate Trinity Sunday. The time together should help the family develop a feeling of love and security within your family. Such a time enables children to experience a glimpse of the love relationship as expressed in the Trinity.
- As a family, take time to play a game that all enjoy. Talk about what you like about playing together. How does playing together help to bring the family closer?
- Gather together as a family and have each person tell one thing that they love most about the family. Provide each family member with a sheet of paper and pencil. Give the following instructions: Write down one thing you can do this week to show your family that you love them as God loves them.
- Teach the youngest members of the family to make the Sign of the Cross with the name of the Trinity. Before the evening meal, as a family pray a prayer in honor of the Trinity, such as: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it
was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
